Oct 17, 2019

Treatment for plantar fasciitis, shockwave therapy and Osteopathy – How can we help you?

We are now officially into Autumn and the summer days (what we had of them) are behind us – but are you still living with the repercussions of all those weeks spent in flip flops and poorly supporting summer sandals?

Sore feet and heels are often the result of poor support and changes in the way your foot moves to compensate for this – Could you have plantar fasciitis?

Have you got Plantar Fasciitis?

Does this sound familiar….
You wake in the morning put your feet on the floor and there it is – the pain and soreness in your feet. You um and ah about what shoes to wear today to make it feel more comfortable and worry about that walk you’ve agreed to do with friends – will you be able to go?

You could need treatment for plantar fasciitis.

What is plantar fasciitis?

Plantar fasciitis is when the connective tissue band, stretching from your heel cross the bottom of your foot, becomes inflamed and painful. It is usually worse after periods when you haven’t been moving for a while ( i.e. in bed at night, after sitting at your desk) or prolonged periods on your feet.

Wearing poorly supportive footwear, such as flip flops (why it’s sometimes called flip flop feet), having naturally flat feet, being overweight, wearing high heels and having tight calf muscles, an all make you more likely to develop plantar fasciitis.

Symptoms for Plantar fasciitis

It may not sound like such a big deal but when you think that you use your feet all day every day, in some way, it’s difficult for them to get a rest and heal. This is one reason why it can be difficult to find relief and symptoms can be on going.

Simple tasks may make people feel worried about how they will cope with the discomfort in their feet. From standing in queues or at concerts, walking, sight seeing on holidays, family park days – you need your feet!

But don’t worry, we can help, with effective treatment for plantar fasciitis. Hands on treatment, shockwave therapy and lots of advice that is specific for you and your goals, will get you feeling better, more quickly.

•Hands on treatment: Joint mobilisations, massage and muscles stretches can all help to relive pain and improve movement.

• Advice on ice packing to reduce inflammation and exercises to support your recovery

• Shockwave Therapy – approved by NICE (National Institute of Clinical Excellence) as treatment for plantar fasciitis which is for chronic (longstanding)

(We work alongside you GP management of the condition too which may include anti inflammatory’s, steroid injections and even surgery in rare cases)

What is Shockwave therapy as treatment for plantar fasciitis?

Shockwave (Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy ESWT – to give it its full title) uses high energy sound waves to promote your body’s own healing mechanisms, reduce pain, promote healing and break down scar tissue.

Shockwave therapy for plantar fasciitis, at Cheadle Osteopathy, is particularly suitable for those who have had the condition for six months or longer and other conservative treatments have failed to help.

It doesn’t carry the same risks as steroid injections (risk of rupture of connective tissue) or the lifestyle disruption of surgery.

See how we can help you to feel better and life live again free from pain.
